SL7B http://treet.tv/shows/tonightlive SL7B does anyone feel like celebrating after this last week? You know? I’d be interested to know how many Second Life residents actually know about the layoffs and care about them? Will the Layoffs affect the Second Life Birthday Celebrations as a result? And…are we celebrating Linden Lab or Second Life? Im not sure about you, but, I tend to think of Second Life as all of us…all of us “residents†that have in-fact built Second Life, with the tools that L.L gave us. If we decide that this celebration is a celebration of Second Life…then thats us isn’t it? In fact its always been us who have contributed to the Second Life birthday celebrations…so why not celebrate?? These questions and more about what is happening this year at SL7B will be answered by two of the organisers this year, Fashion Blogger Harper Beresford and Linden Lab employee Courtney Linden.
DirtyDee Sweetwater is our musical guest this week. To be honest, I don’t know much about him!….only that he is one hell of a musician! and I love his music! I know he has been playing music in a band since 13 yrs old, and the fact that he plays and sings so Sweet is enough for me, I’m really really curious to find out more about the guy, there’s nothing about him on google…and he doesn’t give much away on his bio….so stay tuned!
Our third guest this week is really interesting…she is Uskla Igaly known as Ulrike Schultze in real life, Uskla recently explored the avatar-self relationship with a paper she presented at the 30th International Conference on Information Systems in Phoenix back in December. Uskla is an associate Professor in Information Technology and Operations Management at the Southern Methodist University. She is also involved with the SMU campus here in Second Life.
With her research, funded by the National Science Foundation, she will write a series of papers that look into the different aspects of avatar-self relationships.
What does that mean…well its a study into how we feel about our Avatars, how we relate to them…Uskla’s study relies on data collected from 35 Second Life residents, all of whom spend at least 10 hours a week in the virtual world. Their primary activities range from business and education, to role-play, to socialising. She met them in real life face to face, and in Second Life. And in the process she discovered some verrrry interesting aspects of how people view and relate to their own avatars.
Personally I think of my avatar as me, Paisley is not separate from me, if you bump into Paisley you bump into me, if I look wrong in Second Life…missing hair etc.. I feel embarrassed, you? How do you feel about your avatar? And why did you choose the avatar you inhabit? Do you change your avatar? all very enlightening questions that Uskla will discuss on Sundays show, that may also give us a bit of extra insight into our own complex psyche.
