Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 7th December, for Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams as we look at the career and particle magic of the well-known creator, muscian and machinima-maker, ColeMarie Soliel.

ColeMarie has had a fascinating career, both inworld and on the wider web, and she talks to us about this, as well as demonstrating some of her beautiful particle effects - and explaining why the development of particle scripting in Second Life made her enthusiastic to return and start creating again.

Then she treats us to a full musical performance with stunning particle effects.

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 30th November, for Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams as we explore the fascinating new project from the Firestorm team - their Community Gateway.

Firestorm, makers of the hugely popular Firestorm viewer, were given the opportunity to create their own new user experience - and they have certainly done a fantastic job over five whole regions. Some of this will be familiar to any of you who took part in the Firestorm Hunt (which finishes today, incidentally).

We're joined by Jessica Lyon, the head of Firestorm, and by two of the team working on the Gateway, Horseplay Yamauba and Flossy Andrew. Together we explore how the regions give basic instruction, and then encourage new residents to explore some of the pleasures of Second Life for themselves!

There’s some fantastic creativity on display here and some interesting discussion about how best to introduce new users to Second Life! So … do join us at 2pm today.

The Thanksgiving DinnerThe Thanksgiving Dinner

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 25th November, for Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams for a second chance to see a very special show to celebrate the creativity of Second life design!

Today's Designing Worlds' special Thanksgiving show was first shown in 2013, but it was such a great show that - as we were unable to film an episode for this week, this was the one we thought you'd like to see again!

Thanksgiving (and the US Thanksgiving happens this Thursday) is a time for giving thanks – and so in 2013 for our annual Thanksgiving show, we decided to give thanks for the amazing design work that is being carried out in mesh. To do this, we asked the team behind the group Mesh Creative to host our Thanksgiving Dinner, in a house specially created, landscaped and furnished for this very special occasion!

Outside the The Thanksgiving HouseOutside the The Thanksgiving House

We were joined by Loz Hyde of Meshworx, Cain Maven of Maven Homes and Quantum Luxury Designs, Maxwell Graf of Rustica, Lilith Heart of Heart Botanicals and Pamela Galli of La Galleria, while Samantha Ohrberg acted as cat herder! Other designers whose work appears on the show include Froukje Hoorenbeeke of Dutchie, Domineax Prospero of The Domineaux Effect, Isla Gealach of Cheeky Pea, and Lilith and Dolly Heart of Heart Botanicals among others. And the walls are decorated with some beautiful Second Life Art.

There’s some fantastic creativity on display here, some interesting discussions – and many reasons to be thankful for the amazingly creative designers of Second Life! So … do join us at 2pm today.

Join Designing Worlds at 2pm today, Monday 16th November at our studio in Garden of Dreams, as we visit the Seanchai Library - a home for spoken word storytelling in Second Life.

We first visited the Library (as part of a trip to the West of Ireland) back in 2010, and there are some familiar elements. But much has changed as our guide, Caledonia Skytower explains, with a variety of venues now available for spoken performances. We learn about regular popular events, and join the audience for an extract from Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, read by Corwyn Allen, which forms part of the very popular Tea Time at Baker Street series, and a story read by Caledonia herself.

Finally, we learn about the plans for the year's Dickens Festival for Christmas.

It is going to be a really interesting show, with some great storytelling, so make sure you join us, at 2pm today!

Virtual Health Adventures, photographed by Wildstar BeaumontVirtual Health Adventures, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont

Join Designing Worlds at 2pm today, Monday 9th November at our studio in Garden of Dreams, as we visit a fascinating academic project in Second Life - that is offering very practical help to a disadvantaged community - people who have undergone a real life amputation of at least one upper or lower limb.

The project is assessing the effectiveness of delivering healthcare through a virtual world environment by working with amputees to explore ways of best helping them adjust to the changes in their lives, and working with prosthetic limbs. The project in the real world and in Second Life is led by Dr Sandra Winkler at the Nova Southeastern University, and is funded by an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Grant, in association with the Veterans Agency and Virtual Ability, a nonprofit based within Second Life.

Dr Winkler, together with Jim, who is one of the amputees who has been a client on the program, and Eme Capalini, who is the chief builder on the two Virtual Health Adventures islands, give us a guided tour of the islands, and an insight into how the project has worked. The data is not yet final, but we discuss some of the anecdotal evidence that has emerged.

You can learn more about this project on their website, and on their new You Tube channel, or visit the main island here (the second island is private and used for research).

Join Designing Worlds at 2pm today, Monday 2nd November at our studio in Garden of Dreams, as we explore the amazing art of Burn2!.

There are many art installations and even festivals in Second Life but perhaps none is as anarchic as Burn2, the invworld realisation of the famous Burning Man Festival held annually in the Nevada desert.

And yet this event is governed by protocols and customs to a fascinating degree, whether it is by the guiding principles of Burn2, or by the rituals such as the creation - and burning - of the Man and of the Temple, the decorated porta-potties, the mutated vehicles, the lamplighter processions.

We take a look at this fascinating event, and talk to some of the artists involved: Mrs. Mia Wallace, who gives us a guided tour, Jennifer Steele, Kerryth Tarantal and Leondra Larsson.

We also meet our old friend Toady Nakamura of Grendels, who this year created the temple, and she explains how it is a tribute to Lumiere Noir, the much loved creator of that superb building resource, the Tower of Prims, and who died unexpectedly earlier this year.

It is going to be a great show, so make sure you join us, at 2pm today!

From "The Tollkeeper"From "The Tollkeeper"

Join Designing Worlds at 2pm today, Monday 26th October at our studio in Garden of Dreams, for our Halloween Special as things go bump in New Babbage.

Well, not so much Bump! as Boom!

Now, explosions may not cause much panic in New Babbage, but when it causes two of New Babbage's finest sandhogs (one of whom is the redoubtable Mr Jebediah Biggins) to disappear into the darkest recesses of the catacombs, a rescue mission is rapidly under way.

From "The Tollkeeper"From "The Tollkeeper"

But the catacombs are, of course, never the safest of places to go ...

This is a special Tale of New Babbage, written by Mr Emerson Lighthouse and read by the New Babbagers themselves: Mr Emerson Lighthouse, Miss Bookworm Heinreichs, Miss Garnet Psaltery. Mr Mavromichaeli Szondi and, of course, Mr Biggins. Mr Elrik Merlin and Miss Saffia Widdershins also take part.

It is promising to be a spooky show, so make sure you join us, at 2pm today!
