Hello everyone!

Welcome to the new website and the new forums! I hope we can see people in here discussing the shows - the issues - and what they'd like to see on forthcoming shows!

Saffia!!!! So brave you are, making the first forum post! I hope you like the new setup, and there are still more things coming, but I think we got things to the point where we felt things were "mostly working". Keep an eye out for bugs, and if you find them, our mission will be the squash em!

Our new season starts this week, and we have an exciting selection of topics lined up. We do hope you'll enjoy them. And don't forget, if you know somewhere that will be of interest to us or our listeners, on any grid, do let us know.

Saffia! I am so glad to see that you have procured this forum! I watched a couple of the videos of DW here on the TreetTV site, and they work marvelously well. I really enjoyed the Christmas show in Rothesey. My doesn't Elrik have a lovely home there!

Hi everyone! What a great new forum for us to gather and talk about the show. Elrik's right, we do have some really interesting places to take viewers this season, and the first one is...well, that would be telling. But I wonder, might giraffes be involved?

Designing Worlds returns for a new season on Tuesday 31st August, and we invite you all to join us in our Northpoint studio at 2pm SLTas we return to Remembering Our Friends for a very special show, to celebrate the life and work of Jeffry Pastorelli.

Jeffry's Memorial at Remembering Our Friends

Jeffry PastorelliJeffry PastorelliI've received very sad news today of the passing of Jeffry Pastorelli, Team Captain of the Relay for Hope team at Relay for Life for the last two years. And in both years the team was placed second, and raised L$3548595 - an outstanding achievement for a team that raised its money without big Fairs or enormous gridwide events (which is certainly NOT a criticism of those events; just a measure of how hard Team Relay for Hope worked).

I first met Jeffry when we featured the Remembering Our Friends Memorial on Designing Worlds back in March 2009. Jeffry talked then about his Relay for Life Team, and I was so excited to see them at the event with a wonderful, richly complex build that featured a maze, an aquarium, a stage, the four seasons ... and a salute to internationalism with more flags from more countries than I saw on any other campsite, and scripted words of greeting and thoughts in a multiplicity of languages.

Designing Worlds invites you to join us in our Northpoint studio today at 2pm SLT as we explore one of the smallest and most intricate of designs in Second Life - the creation of jewellery.

Jewels!Jewels!

Usually on Designing Worlds we are looking at the large scale and saying: "Wow - that landscape! Whoa - that palace! Wow - that installation!" But, of course, one of the things that makes Second Life so enticing is the beauty of small - even tiny - objects. And jewellery here in the Second Life world raises a key question: how you can create such beautiful, tiny objects from prims?

RennieR's picture

Yes, in today's show we are going to offer you a last chance to see something of the amazing builds that were created for this year's Relay for Life in Second Life.

Tomorrow these stunning creations will start to be dismantled, but today, Tuesday 20th July, Designing Worlds will be revisiting five of them again and talking to the owners of these gorgeous builds!

Relay for Life 2010 logoRelay for Life 2010 logoThis weekend represents the culmination of four months of fundraising and events ranging from Expos, Auctions, Balls, Quiz Nights, Talent Nights … and any other weird and wonderful events that residents and supporters of Relay for Life in Second Life could plan!
Now, this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday July 17-18, avatars representing cancer survivors, caregivers, their families and supporters will be gathering for the sixth annual Relay For Life® of Second Life’s special 24-hour track event.

We will be running our usual telethon, with many of us taking part, either behind the scenes or interviewing those people who have worked so hard to create this years Relay, either through organising the event, designing the builds or taking part in support of one of the 150+ teams who will be competing this year. Relay such a success this year. We'll be bringing you coverage of some of the major ceremonies - not only the opening and closing (with fireworks by RacerX Gullwing!) and also the very special Luminaria Ceremony. And we'll be showing you something of the beautiful builds to be found around the 41 one sims that make up Relay for Life in Second Life this year.

Only a few weeks ago, in the wake of the Linden Lab lay-offs and the announcement of a major change of direction for the Second Life grid, Designing Worlds asked "Where Next for Second Life?" It seems to us that the changes that have happened since - the return of Philip Linden as temporary CEO and the ongoing problems facing residents make it timely to return to this issue with another studio show.

In the wake of the Linden Lab lay-offs of the past week (with more threatened to come), and the announcement of a major change of direction for the Second Life grid, Designing Worlds will be asking this week "Where Next for Second Life?"
